“Burial of the (Witches) Women” and Samhain Supper
Following this summer’s Beltane event welcome back dancer Hayley Matthews to Ashley Court with another powerful outdoor solo dance work.This time she dances-in the dark half of the year
‘Burial of the (Witches) Women’ is one of Hayley’s ‘Sanctuary Works’, made in and from the wild; by connecting to the land, to body spirit and the spontaneity of dance making. Dances that call us out to the seasons and weather within and without, through the year.
This dance is a ritual. It buries the women never given burials, and the horror many of us carry from those times. And calls the presence of the feminine crafts, largely cut out of our cultures at that time, back among and within us. Perhaps it could call back the rivers, air, goodness, to our sides once again.
This is a promenade performance, the dance work will be viewed from an elevated path along the driveway at Ashley Court, the audience is standing and mobile for the duration of the piece (15-20 minutes), some seating available if required.
As the light fades to darkness make your way to the south lawn space (with marquee cover) for a long table Samhain Supper of hot soup and bread, apple crumble/baked apples and cream (included in ticket price), cash bar available. At 7.00pm Light a lantern and make your way back down the driveway through the darkness for the closing moments of the performance.
